PRESS STATEMENT/SECURITY ALERT
CONCERNED ELDERS OF WARRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY, DELTA STATE
Date:06/06/2026
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MUST ACT NOW OVER REPORTED THREATS OF VIOLENCE AND RISING TENSION IN WARRI
The Concerned Elders of Warri Federal Constituency wish to place on record our serious alarm and deep concern over disturbing developments currently fueling fear and insecurity in Warri.
We refer particularly to reported statements made during the Itsekiri press conference of 3 June 2026, as well as circulating video claims reportedly involving a person identified as “Maca Polo,” described as a gun-runner for the itshekiris. These reports and materials have heightened tension across Warri and increased the risk of escalation into communal violence.
1. Our Position: Warri Cannot Be Exposed to Careless loose talks
Warri is too fragile for inflammatory language. As elders we are committed to peace, stability and lawful conduct, we cannot remain silent where public remarks are alleged to have the capacity to, provoke violence, encourage confrontation, threaten peaceful coexistence and destabilize public order, especially in a region with a history of communal unrest.
2. Key Concern: Reported Remarks Capable of Threatening Peace
We are informed that the press briefing allegedly included statements touching on, weapons and preparedness for confrontation and threats connected to the ongoing Warri delineation process.
Such remarks, which are made publicly and linked to any group or individual, should not be treated as normal political discussion. They must be handled as security and public order matters.
3. Historical Warning: Warri Has Paid Too High a Price
Warri has endured painful violence in the past, including the years 1997, 1999, and 2003. Those experiences remain a stark reminder of what happens when warning signals are dismissed and dangerous inflammatory languages is allowed to grow unchecked.
Violence does not start with fighting, it starts with threats, it grows when institutions fail to act early.
4. Demand for Immediate Security Investigation
We therefore call on the Federal Government, through the appropriate security and law enforcement agencies, to urgently investigate all reported statements capable of threatening peace in Warri Federal Constituency.
We specifically urge immediate action by: National Security Adviser (NSA), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Police Force and all relevant security agencies
This investigation should include individuals publicly linked to the reported remarks, including, Maca Polo, Barrister Ariyo Robinson, Mr. Alex Eyengho, Mr. A.S. Mene and any other persons reasonably linked to such statements or conduct.
5. Rule of Law Must Apply to Everyone
We reaffirm that no person, regardless of position, influence or ethnicity, must be above the law, when national security and public peace are at stake.
Where evidence of unlawful threats, incitement or destabilizing actions is established, the perpetrators must be brought to justice, in accordance with Nigerian law.
6. INEC Delineation Report Must Be Implemented Without Delay
We also urge the Federal Government to ensure the immediate implementation of the completed INEC delineation report, which emerged from constitutional and judicial directions.
This process must not be delayed, frustrated, intimidated or manipulated under any guise.
7. Core Message to All Actors
Warri Federal Constituency must never become a battleground.
Our communities require justice, fairness, responsible leadership, peaceful coexistence and strict respect for the rule of law.
Conclusion/Final Call
The Federal Government must act now before tension escalates and innocent lives are endangered.
Peace must be protected.
Justice must prevail.
