PRESIDENCY MUST MATCH WORDS WITH ACTION: IMPLEMENT THE WARRI FINAL WARD DELINEATION RESULT NOW
The Concerned Stakeholders of Warri Federal Constituency have taken note of reports in which the Presidency allegedly denied interfering in the implementation of the Supreme Court-ordered ward delineation exercise in Warri Federal Constituency while expressing concerns over disruptions in oil production.
While we welcome the Presidency’s clarification, we must state unequivocally that words without action will only deepen suspicion and further erode public confidence. If indeed there is no interference from the Presidency, then nothing should stop the immediate implementation of the final ward delineation result already completed and publicly presented by INEC.
Let it be stated clearly, this matter is no longer political, it is constitutional, legal and moral.
The Supreme Court in George Timinimi & Ors v. INEC (SC/CV/1033/2022) gave a clear directive for a fresh delineation exercise in Warri Federal Constituency in line with constitutional realities. INEC complied by conducting fieldwork, stakeholder engagements and presentation of findings. Therefore, the only lawful step left is implementation.
Section 287(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) leaves no room for ambiguity: all authorities and persons are bound to obey the decisions of the Supreme Court. Court judgments are not suggestions. They are not optional. They are binding.
Those attempting to distort history or frustrate implementation should understand that truth cannot be buried forever. Historical records, colonial administrative documents, intelligence reports and judicial pronouncements have consistently acknowledged the realities of settlements and communities within the Warri axis. The historical and demographic facts cannot be permanently suppressed by propaganda or political pressure.
We state firmly that those dissatisfied with the outcome of the delineation have a lawful and constitutional remedy, the courts. No group should hold justice hostage or expect constitutional implementation to be suspended indefinitely to satisfy sectional interests.
To Mr. President and the Federal Government, the moment has come to prove commitment to the rule of law. Justice delayed in Warri is justice denied. Delay only heightens tension, deepens mistrust and creates avoidable uncertainty in an already sensitive environment.
The peace of Warri is best preserved not through endless delay but through justice, fairness and obedience to the law.
We therefore call on INEC to:
1. Immediately publish and implement the final ward delineation result for Warri Federal Constituency.
2. Resist every form of political intimidation, pressure or manipulation.
3. Respect the authority of the Supreme Court and the sanctity of the Constitution.
Our message remains simple and clear:
No one can stop justice whose time has come. The delineation has come to stay. If anyone is dissatisfied, let them go to court.
