WARRI IJAW RESCUE MOVEMENT SAYS DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT HAS NO POWER OVER WARD DELINEATION; URGES IJAW LEADERS NOT TO DERAIL THE STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM.

9 June, 2026

The Warri Ijaw Rescue Movement wishes to state unequivocally that the issue of ward delineation is a federal matter that falls squarely within the constitutional powers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It is not an issue that can be resolved through political statements, state government interventions, or meetings convened outside the constitutional framework established for the exercise.

We therefore call on INEC to immediately implement its final report on the ward delineation exercise in Warri Federal Constituency. The commission must be allowed to discharge its constitutional responsibilities without political interference or unnecessary distractions.

We also call on all Ijaw leaders and stakeholders to remain steadfast and committed to the collective struggle for justice, fairness, and equitable representation. This is a defining moment in the history of the Ijaw people, and every leader is expected to stand firmly in defence of our collective interest.

Any Ijaw leader who takes steps contrary to the collective position of the Ijaw people on this matter, or engages in actions capable of undermining the implementation of the delineation report, will be declared persona non grata in Ijaw land. The interests of our people must never be sacrificed for personal or political considerations.

We further wish to remind the Governor of Delta State that he has no constitutional role in determining or altering the outcome of the ward delineation exercise. Rather than expending state resources on a matter that falls exclusively within the jurisdiction of INEC, he should publicly support the implementation of the commission’s final report.

As the Chief Security Officer of the state, the Governor should instead focus his attention on issues that fall within his constitutional responsibilities. Reports of individuals openly boasting on national television about possessing weapons and making inflammatory statements capable of threatening public peace and security should be of greater concern. The state government should work with relevant security agencies to investigate and arrest those buying and stockpiling guns to cause mayhem in Warri to ensure that law and order are maintained across Delta State.

The Warri Ijaw Rescue Movement remains resolute in its pursuit of justice, fairness, and equal representation for the Ijaw people. We shall continue to pursue all lawful and constitutional means to ensure that the rights and interests of our people are protected and respected.
