CONCERNED ELDERS OF WARRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY, DELTA STATE

NEWS UPDATE
The Concerned Elders of Warri Federal Constituency have expressed grave concern over disturbing developments following a live press briefing reportedly held by Itsekiri stakeholders on 3 July 2026, where statements allegedly touching on weapons, confrontation, and the ongoing INEC delineation process in Warri Federal Constituency were made.
The Elders warned that any public rhetoric capable of heightening ethnic tension or creating fear in an already sensitive environment must not be ignored by security agencies, especially considering Warri’s painful history of communal unrest.
According to the Elders, Warri has suffered enough violence in the past, particularly during the crises of 1997, 1999, and 2003, and any statement capable of threatening public peace deserves urgent and professional security attention.
The group therefore called on the National Security Adviser (NSA), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Police Force, and the Federal Government to immediately investigate all reported threatening statements and ensure that no individual is above the law where national security and public peace are concerned.
Below is the full text of the open letter:
OPEN LETTER TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER
Dear Sir,
WE CALL FOR IMMEDIATE SECURITY INVESTIGATION INTO REPORTED THREATENING STATEMENTS CAPABLE OF TRIGGERING COMMUNAL UNREST IN WARRI, DELTA STATE
We, the Concerned Elders of Warri Federal Constituency, write with urgency over disturbing developments capable of threatening peace and security in Warri Federal Constituency, Delta State.
We have remained committed to peace, coexistence, and constitutional engagement despite years of political marginalization. However, peace must never be mistaken for weakness and restraint must never be interpreted as surrender.
On 3 July 2026, during a live press briefing reportedly held by Itsekiri stakeholders, statements allegedly touching on weapons, confrontation, and actions capable of heightening fear and tension in Warri Federal Constituency were made.
If such statements were indeed made publicly, they must not be ignored or dismissed as ordinary political rhetoric.
Warri has suffered enough.
The painful crises of 1997, 1999, and 2003 remain painful reminders of the dangers of inflammatory rhetoric and delayed intervention.
Violence does not begin with bullets.
Violence begins with dangerous rhetoric.
We therefore call on the NSA, DSS, Police, and all relevant security agencies to immediately investigate and question all persons linked to reported statements capable of threatening peace in Warri, including Chief Alex Eyengho, Barr. Robinson Ariyo, Mr. A.S. Mene, and any other persons whose public utterances may reasonably require lawful security scrutiny.
No individual, regardless of social standing or ethnic affiliation, should be above investigation where public peace is concerned.
We also urge the Federal Government to support the immediate implementation of the completed INEC delineation report, which arose from constitutional and judicial directives, without intimidation or interference.
Warri Federal Constituency is not a battlefield. It is home to communities whose peace depends on justice, fairness, and responsible leadership.
Nigeria must act before tension escalates.
